First, Bell and his comrade Anthony Bottom (aka Jalil Muntaqim) ambushed and slaughtered Officers Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones on May 21, 1971
 

Then, on August 29th, 1971, Bell and six accomplices murdered SFPD Sergeant John Victor Young. They blew Sgt. Young's face off.

The release of racist, serial cop-killer Herman Bell is why I check the California Inmate Locator periodically for info on the 1970's NOI/Zebra killers.

The two still in detention are Larry Craig Green, age 66, and Jessie Lee Cooks, age 73. Green and Cooks both have been turned down for parole 13 times each.

J.C. Simon died in prison in 2015, Manuel Moore in November last year. Simon's death was mentioned in several news reports, Moore's not at all.

Green was denied in 2009 for 10 years. His next hearing is in September 2019. Cooks was last denied in 2013 for 7 years. His next hearing is in March 2020.

The above information is from the California Dept of Corrections Inmate Locator as of today, March 17.

Two “Zebra” killers from the Sacramento mosque have already been paroled. One was Larry Pratt; I could not determine the other killer’s name. The Sacramento mosque killers were Russell Lang, 19, Emery L. Hanson, 25, and Larry Pratt, 19. Dale McKinney, 23 or 24 at the time of the crimes, was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, but not of actually carrying out the murders.
