Charities have called for greater funding for dementia research as official figures revealed the condition caused more female deaths last year than Covid-19. 

Data showed that every day 125 women are losing their lives to dementia. 

While Covid-19 was the leading cause of death in men in England and Wales last year, for women it was dementia, killing 45,922 females in 12 months – or five women an hour.

 It was the cause of 15.3 per cent of all female deaths, the Sunday Times reported.

A tragedy that no one really gives a second thought to. 

Except for those of us who have had their lives deeply affected by this horrible, horrible disease.

Tim Parry, Director at Alzheimer’s Research UK, told i: “While women can expect to live longer than men, this alone does not explain why women are disproportionately impacted by dementia.

“Researchers are studying potential biological and social factors that could underly women’s increased risk of dementia and we need to continue to invest in research to find conclusive answers.

“Dementia has been the leading cause of death for women for a decade now. With the number of people with dementia set to double by 2050, it will continue to have a devastating impact on families around the country unless we prioritise research.”

Devastating does not begin to describe the impact.

But it was so much easier to sell a pandemic, push an untested jab, while restricting human freedoms, right? Priorities being priorities. And real health not being one of those priorities.
